Nebras Hoveizavi is an artist and educator whose work explores the power of visual expression to convey complex ideas and emotions. Born in Ahvaz and now residing in West Asia and the United States, her cultural background and life experiences have deeply influenced her artistic journey. After earning her B.F.A. in Photo/Media in 2014 and her M.F.A. in 2016 from the California Institute of the Arts, Nebras began her career in photography. Still, they soon expanded into moving images, performance, and installation art. Her work often explores the dynamic interplay between photography, sculpture, architecture, and installation, with a focus on experimental filmmaking. As an Arab Iranian with dual citizenship, Nebras' identity, economic challenges, and the politics of her environment intricately shape her artistic practice. She engages deeply with these subjects, offering unique perspectives on their multifaceted dimensions.

In addition to her creative practice, Nebras is committed to education. She has taught film and photography in Qatar, as well as at the Community Art Partnership in Valencia, California, and in Tehran, where she also taught photography and criticism. Nebras' work has been showcased both internationally and within her home country. Notable exhibitions include "Body Politics" at the Whitechapel Gallery in London and "Cinema Iran: The 6th Edition of Cinema Iran," a festival of Iranian films, Detour to Tehran, in Munich. Currently, she divides her time between West Asia and Southern California, drawing inspiration from diverse cultures and landscapes. Driven by a constant curiosity, Nebras pushes boundaries, challenges conventions, and creates thought-provoking works that resonate with audiences on a profound level.
